I miss life before COVID, especially attending live events. The Mic Drop was a popular weekly open mic held at Blue Owl Coffee in downtown East Lansing, MI. Its host was poet and author Alexis Rosado with music and sound provided by All of the Above Hip Hop Academy’s resident DJ, producer, and educator Y’z Council. People would come from miles around to pack the coffee house. Some of them were there to perform while others just wanted to be amongst the enjoyment.

It was common for some of the attendees to linger after The Mic Drop was over to network, fellowship, and take pictures. One night while I was there, I watched Alexis and Curlitude’s Najeema Iman gather a bunch of people close together for a group shot. They asked AOTA executive director Ozay Moore to snap the photo. While he was doing this, I stood on a chair behind him and took my own picture of him taking their picture. |THIS.
