It is a blessing when remarkable people that I admire make time for me to interview them. Those conversations are reflections of us both, that’s why it matters what I ask.
Two of the people I was blessed to speak with was multi-platinum Hip Hop duo Ying Yang Twins – D-Roc and Kaine.
During our interview about their place in the culture, I asked this GOOD QUESTION: What’s your response to rappers from the South being stereotyped as unintelligent?
With D-Roc at his side Kaine answered, “See I got a problem with that because people don’t let their mind frames open any further than what they’re seeing. It’s not the fault of people from the south, it’s the mistake of the people for thinking that way.
Everything that has ever been dropped in the music industry that has blew up has came to our part of the country. What music came out at one time that everybody listened to and didn’t care where they were from? Run DMC.
Run DMC sound like they could have been from anywhere on the planet when they were rapping. But when they spoke, then you knew they were from up north. The vibe they came off with back in the day has been the vibe that resided in the south, period.
What we do is bring the club to the stage. The people wouldn’t book us if they felt like we couldn’t have held the crowds attention span. So, for our shows, it’s not mandatory that we’re like that. We’re just like that.” | By Mr. Joe Walker
