It is a blessing when remarkable people allow us to interview them. Those conversations are reflections of us both, that’s why it’s imperative that what we ask matters.

One of the people we were blessed to speak with was Hip Hop artist Adrian Wright!

On August 11, 2023, he will join Sixman and a lineup of great artists in Grand Rapids, MI for HIP HOP 50Th Anniversary Music Fest live at top-rated venue The Pyramid Scheme. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event sponsored by WYCE Radio, NOXX and COOKIES GR, Wasted Brand Clothing, Debo Scotty (Power Moves Only), Vitale’s On Leonard, THIS ENT, and Feeding America (West Michigan).

With this cultural milestone in mind, we asked Adrian THIS GOOD QUESTION: What excites you about celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and why is this milestone so culturally and socially important?

He answered, “There are a multitude of reasons why I’m excited to celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop. The main reason is simply that I’m always excited to geek out about Hip Hop.

This genre of music has been speaking to me my entire life and I haven’t connected with anything as consistently as I have with Hip Hop. It’s something dangerously beautiful that people from the type of neighborhoods and culture that I come from created with minimal resources. Fifty years of Hip Hop is a reminder of our brilliance and our defiance in a world that said this was a fad.

Fifty years is also a reminder of how young this culture is and excites me for what’s to come as we continue to move into the future.” | THIS ENT
