It is a blessing when remarkable people allow us to interview them. Those conversations are reflections of us both, that’s why it’s imperative that what we ask matters.

One of the people we were blessed to speak with was Hip Hop artist and director Alfie Da Great!

On August 11, 2023, Alfie will join Sixman and a lineup of great artists in Grand Rapids, MI for HIP HOP 50Th Anniversary Music Fest live at top-rated venue The Pyramid Scheme. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event sponsored by WYCE Radio, NOXX and COOKIES GR, Wasted Brand Clothing, Debo Scotty (Power Moves Only), Vitale’s On Leonard, THIS ENT, and Feeding America (West Michigan).

With this cultural milestone in mind, we asked him THIS GOOD QUESTION: What excites you about celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and why is this milestone so culturally and socially important?

Alfie answered, “What excites me about celebrating Hip Hops 50th B-day? [It’s] that I still get the same feeling I got when I was 7 listening to Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” or Slick Rick’s “Children’s Story”.

Hip Hop just turned 50, I just turned 43; Hip Hop has always been a major part of my life.

I would say the milestone is important to the doubters and naysayers. For those of us who are Hip Hop culture, this is and will always be a thing of ours. Everything from sports to fashion has been affected by Hip Hop.

We are now out of sub-genre existence, to Pop culture icons.” | THIS ENT
