THISENT.com will forever have a special bond with character April O’Neil.

Our site launched in 2019 with an interview with Renae Jacobs, the voice actress behind the 1987 cartoon version of April from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

On that iconic series, the Turtles often teamed with or rescued the outspoken, crafty, and respect-demanding Channel 6 News reporter. Wearing her signature yellow jumpsuit or a disguise, we all recognize April for her valued place in history.

The original version of April O’Neil appeared in Mirage Comics’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1984. Created by Ken Eastman and Peter Laird, she was a computer programmer working on MOUSER robots for Dr. Baxter Stockman. She would later leave his side to open an antique store.

Various elements from the comics April got used in the cartoon and the hit 1990 live action movie. While TV April worked in media, she often showed signs of being technically and mechanically savvy. On the silver screen she famously lived above her family’s antique store, the site of a major battle between the Turtles and their Foot Clan archenemies.

Like her four amphibian friends, April changed and evolved through the years – on paper, the TV shows, and in theaters. Her 2003 FOX Kids TMNT iteration was more in line with her comic book origin.

Director Michael Bay and his team took more offshoot liberties with April, played by Megan Fox, in both his 2014 and 2016 Turtles films.

The most memorable and beloved big screen adaptation was Judith Hoag’s 1990 portrayal.

For the near 10-year run of Archie Comics Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures, the April of those stories was more like the ’87 toon. That’s the one most people, including everyone at THISENT.com, identifies with and loves the most. |THIS.
