Renee Bennett’s story begins as a woman with very low self-esteem and a constant feeling of inadequacy.
With a less-than-ideal job in a less-than-ideal location, she manages a website for Lily LeClair in the building of a dark and dreary basement with her oddly supportive co-worker Mason. Daydreaming of landing a job in the corporate office as a receptionist, Renee doesn’t think she can pull it off because she doesn’t feel pretty enough.
Unable to see how amazing she is, Renee is determined to try something different, so she decides to take a spin class at SoulCycle. Getting into the groove and totally pumped for the grueling class, she falls, hits her head, and it changes her life, forever!
Awakening from a mild concussion, she simply cannot believe the reflection in the mirror. Suddenly seeing the beauty she wished for all along, her confidence was now at an all-time high.
Written and directed by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein in 2018, I Feel Pretty received high accolades at the box office, grossing over $94 million.
Critics argued that the movie failed to deliver and convey a message of acceptance and love for whatever size you are, however, I beg to differ.
As we watch Renee’s personality flourish, we are taken on a journey of self-discovery, sadness, happiness, and a well-received message to simply love yourself for who you are.
The main character is so relatable as many women deal with the feeling of not being enough for a multitude of reasons. Amy Schumer delivers a delightfully witty performance as Renee Bennett in a sarcastic, innocent, and lovable way. Easily understandable why this movie is still one of my favorites. From beginning to end, this movie authentically feels great.
Pop the corn, find your comfy zone, and get ready to laugh completely and totally out loud. |THIS.
