Thirty years ago, Hip Hop was introduced to Detroit’s very own Kid Rock – a 19-year-old White kid wearing sagging jeans and a high-top fade.
His debut album Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast was released on Jive / RCA /Top Dog which, to this day, remains one of the most neglected classic Hip Hop albums in the genre’s history.
Kid Rock jumps right into things with his unforgettable story-telling rhymes, and his ode to oral sex with the Mike E. Clark-produced track “Yo-Da-Lin In The Valley”. He gives a very descriptive image of his exploits with each verse throughout the song.
He continues these stories of sexual exploits on the Too Short-produced “Wax the Booty”.
On “New York Is Not My Home”, Kid Rock tells you the tale of a kid who records his first album in New York and his experiences along the way and reminds you that NY is not his home.
Kid Rock was ahead of his time with this debut. The production, lyrics, and subject matter are just as relevant now as they were in 1990.
This album gets a salute from me! | THIS.
