Creative beats and rhymes genius “Player One” Mark Cooper kicked off his 5-album Player One Saga with this bar-raising boom bap, nerdcore debut I Am Player One.
Inspired by Tron, the story begins with Cooper getting sucked into a videogame where he must both prove himself and fight his way out. Along the way the Detroit MC encounters such characters as the helpful but attitudinal Sabrina the A.I. and the villainous Major Label.
As the sprawling saga unfolds, we’re treated to gem after gem including “Boomerang” featuring Crimson Alchemist, “Gamer 4 Life”, the insanely popular “Mortal Kombat High” featuring Starbomb, and, my favorite, “Transformers” (featuring Finale and Mic Jack) which samples the Season 1 closing credits theme of the original The Transformers cartoon series.
