There’s always that one artist who can reinvent themselves, and remain who they originally were, time and time again, no matter how many years pass.
Dr. Dre is one of those artists.
After introducing us to Snoop Doggy Dogg in the spring of 1992 on “Deep Cover”, a song found on the movie soundtrack Deep Cover, they continued with their undeniable, magical chemistry on Dre’s solo debut album The Chronic in late ‘92.
The first single “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” was another song that featured a young Snoop whose laid back flow and raw lyrics complimented Dr. Dre’s G-funk banger.
The second single “Fuck Wit Dre Day” also features Snoop; this time Dre’s taking the opportunity to throw blows at his adversaries Tim Dog, Luther Campbell, 2 Live Crew, Ice Cube and Eazy-E.
The third single “Let Me Ride” was laced with another laid-back G-funk beat, and its video, ironically, had a cameo from Ice Cube.
Everything about this album was genius. The album title, the album cover, and the production is timeless. It changed the sound of Hip Hop at that time.
With other features from Daz, Kurupt, The Lady of Rage, RBX, and Jewell, this album remains a classic and one of the most influential albums in Hip Hop history. | THIS ENT
