It is a blessing when remarkable people allow us to interview them. Those conversations are reflections of us both, that’s why it’s imperative that what we ask matters.

One of the people we were blessed to speak with was DJ and producer DJ Ill One!

On August 11, 2023, he will join Sixman and a lineup of great artists in Grand Rapids, MI for HIP HOP 50Th Anniversary Music Fest live at top-rated venue The Pyramid Scheme. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event sponsored by WYCE Radio, NOXX and COOKIES GR, Wasted Brand Clothing, Debo Scotty (Power Moves Only), Vitale’s On Leonard, THIS ENT, and Feeding America (West Michigan).

With this cultural milestone in mind, we asked Ill One THIS GOOD QUESTION: What excites you about celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and why is this milestone so culturally and socially important?

He answered, “I love that attention is brought to the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop, but I’m a little jaded.

Coming from a person who’s celebrated Hip Hop culture every day of my life since I was 9 years old, I think that there should be more focus on every element. The rap part is the only focus still, so it’s bittersweet.

Besides this concert, I’m going about it my way and celebrating until the day the creator calls me home, but not many want to do the knowledge to begin with. That’s where it starts.

I will always love the Hip Hop culture to the heart, but I’m real enough to know that not everybody will share my sentiments.” | THIS ENT
