Welcome to THIS edition of GOOD QUESTION, brought to you exclusively by THISent.com! I’m your host, “Word Heavyweight Champion” Mr. Joe Walker.
Throughout my illustrious career as an entertainment writer and journalist, I’ve been blessed with opportunities to speak with many notable and famous persons. One of those is acclaimed Broadway performer, actor and recording artist Mauricio Martinez!
During our conversation I asked Mauricio THIS good question: What challenge did portraying Emilio Estefan present that you’d never experienced before?
He answered, “I get the comedic role because Emilio is very funny in real life and he was written in a way to be the charmer that he is. But he also has the punchlines. He also has the political stance and business side.
He’s not the singer, he’s not the performer.
It would have been very easy for me to go in a way to just be funny and to have a thick accent like I would play Ricky Ricardo or Speedy Gonzalez or any Latin stereotype. But to tell it with truth, to portray him with honesty, the biggest challenge was not to go to that comfort zone of I’m just going to be funny and smile and have a thick accent.
Just finding that fine line of honesty, truthfulness, and respect because you are portraying someone that exists, that’s living. You can go to YouTube and Google, and there he is!” |THIS.
