Welcome to THIS edition of GOOD QUESTION, brought to you exclusively by THISent.com! I’m your host, “Word Heavyweight Champion” Mr. Joe Walker.

Throughout my illustrious career as an entertainment writer and journalist, I’ve been blessed with opportunities to speak with many notable and famous persons. One of those is actor, producer, stand-up comedian, and hip-hop enthusiast Jamie Kennedy.

During our conversation I asked Jamie THIS good question: Where did your love for hip-hop originate?

He answered, “It comes from my Philly roots. I grew up in Philly in the heart of the city. There was always a lot of rap music playing around, in different storefronts and on the radio. This kid used to come to the playground with a big radio and play it. Once I heard it, that was it. It was a new sound, nothing like Rock’n Roll. I had never heard stuff that was so funky and different. I was hooked!

I actually remember one time I was on 69th Street, probably 1985. I remember seeing Fresh Prince – Will Smith – on the corner selling his tapes of “Girls of The World Aint Nothing But Trouble.” That was his first hit. He wasn’t national yet. People just knew him around Philly as The Fresh Prince. And now he’s a mega-superstar. And it’s amazing remembering seeing him on that corner knowing that it started right there. Philly had a lot of hip-hop heads.” |THIS.
