It is a blessing when remarkable people allow us to interview them. Those conversations are reflections of us both, that’s why it’s imperative that what we ask matters.

One of the people we were blessed to speak with was Hip Hop artist Gwopped Up $peedy!

On August 11, 2023, he will join Sixman and a lineup of great artists in Grand Rapids, MI for HIP HOP 50Th Anniversary Music Fest live at top-rated venue The Pyramid Scheme. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event sponsored by WYCE Radio, NOXX and COOKIES GR, Wasted Brand Clothing, Debo Scotty (Power Moves Only), Vitale’s On Leonard, THIS ENT, and Feeding America (West Michigan).

With this cultural milestone in mind, we asked him THIS GOOD QUESTION: What excites you about celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and why is this milestone so culturally and socially important?

$peedy answered, “What excites me about celebrating the anniversary of Hip Hop is the same thing that makes me wanna contribute to the game every single day when I wake up; that reason is the love I have for this beautiful culture. Especially knowing the critics back in the day said Hip Hop was only a fad and wouldn’t be around for long.

I can’t imagine life without Hip Hop. That’s depressing to even fathom.

To see how Hip Hop has literally taken over the world is a testament to why this is such an important milestone. You can’t walk out the house, scroll your phone, turn on your TV, [or] watch a movie without seeing the impact of something that started in the slums of New York.

A lot of people lost their lives and sacrificed everything for us to get to this point. Just out of respect for that alone I have to celebrate and keep representing correctly. I can’t wait to rock The Pyramid Scheme with my fellow Hip Hop comrades on August 11.

It’s deeper than rap.”| THIS ENT
