The year 2020 has been difficult. Despite its many challenges, popular Hip Hop artist and sought-after event host MR. 1204 made the most of it.

Accustomed to standing on stages in front of thousands of screaming fans and walking red carpets at high profile events, the self-made West Michigan native remained active in midst of a national health crisis.

Following the release of his 3rd consecutive hit single “Free The Goonz”, 1204 embarked on a remarkably executed, socially responsible media tour across the country. He’s prepared to reap the benefits of his likely 4th straight hit, “What To Tell You”, which is available via his Phat Boi Records on all major outlets as of midnight January 1, 2021.

MR. 1204 shared some of his time with us by answering THIS questionnaire about his life in 2020 and what to expect from his in 2021.

How would you summarize 2020?

I can only describe 2020 as the age of the true hustler!

Which of your blessings would you say was the biggest?

Being able to get up and go get it every day!

If I weren’t able to wake up, I wouldn’t be able to help produce my beautiful children, create wonderful music, bring joy to those around me, and simply command my team! Just being able to wake up is a blessing! The rest is up to me.

Did you read any good books that you would recommend to others?

I didn’t do a lot of reading, but I did do a lot of web searching and just really honing-in on whatever I didn’t know about the music business and the real movers and shakers.

What was the best song of the year?

Shit, I gotta say “The Box” by Roddy Rich. It damn near lasted the whole fuckin’ pandemic! That’s wild.

What were the movies or television shows that you couldn’t stop watching?

‘The Crown’. Man, I’ve always been amazed by that group of people and I’ve learned so much. Then I think back to all the old cartoons and movies that are about that family either direct or indirectly.

Who were the artists you listened to the most?

I still played Nipsey Hussle but when NAS dropped Kings Disease … I stayed on repeat! 2 Chainz dropped a classic as well!

What did you Google the most?

Royalties and distribution. I swear, no lie.

Tell us the most surprising thing you heard all year.

It wasn’t Trump’s fault about the handling of the pandemic! When I saw people posting that on social media it made me furious!

I just couldn’t believe they thought it was anyone else’s fault! I couldn’t believe how many people actually liked and loved Trump!

Where were you when you learned about COVID-19 and how did you respond?

I’m kind of a political dude. Well, at least I try to stay tapped in. So, I was watching the news and I kept hearing about this novel coronavirus. Then I just remember seeing people spraying their children down after school before they got into their cars and wild shit like that!

I also remember us doing “Free The Goonz” video. We scheduled to finish the 2nd verse and the whole world just stopped a week later! It put that whole project into frenzy for me.

How were you helped and hurt by the pandemic?

The pandemic made all my side hustles major primary streams of income! The fact that all the radio PD’s and DJ’s were accessible was just awesome!

From a music and business standpoint as an indie artist who’s a hustler, it just magnified every avenue for me.

Did you vote?

Of course, and I voted for Biden! Fuck Trump! I’m not sorry but at the same time I’m not directly trying to offend anyone else but him!

Did 2020 cause you to value your life and the lives of others more than you did already?

Oh, 2020 made me overall do more with my family. So, yes, just being able to enjoy holidays that I would normally be traveling on was just an eye opener and a blessing! I’m forever grateful things came full circle the way they did.

What can we expect from you in 2021?

One word: Greatness! |THIS.
