We’ll remember 2021 as a year of triumphs and tragedies, wins and losses, and unifying optimism and aggravated division. In THIS INTERVIEW we revisit the last 12 months from the perspective of Hip Hop artist and film maker Mic Hunter D.
A member of acclaimed group The Fist Coalition, Mic’s stern visionary outlook is felt both in front of and behind the camera. While their fans await his visual masterwork for their current single “Non Fiction”, Mic’s been applauded for his direction of “Filthy” – the video for Sixman’s gritty single that features The Fist Coalition.
Mic shared some of his thoughts with us by answering THIS questionnaire about his life in 2021 and what to expect from him in 2022. THIS is for YOU!
How would you summarize 2021?
A lot of ups and downs, and very hard life-changing events to cope with.
Did you read anything inspiring or influential that you would recommend to others?
I’ve been reading a book called It’s OK That You’re Not OK. In the book [the author Megan Devine] stated that however a person was before death, intensified after a loved one is gone.
What was the best song of the year?
“Nobody” by Nas fest. Lauryn Hill.
What were the movies or television shows that you couldn’t stop watching?
Snowfall, Godfather of Harlem, Titans, Young Justice, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, Superman & Lois, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Who or what entertained you the most?
My crew and rap group The Fist Coalition kept me entertained with continuously seeking our music endeavors.
What was your favorite social media post – by you or someone you follow?
A post from our producer Big Shaady saying, “We’re not afraid to go back to the well”.
Tell us the most surprising thing you heard or saw all year.
Seeing the death of my baby brother effected my eternal soul and something that I never thought would happen to my family.
How did you evolve over the last 12 months?
My knowledge of the music business and the music industry has evolved in so many ways.
In what way has the pandemic affected your outlook on life?
The pandemic let me know that we’re not free here in America in 2020, and things can be shut down in the blink of an eye. I also learned how to make adjustments and find other ways to do what we have to do.
Which of your blessings would you say was the biggest?
The opportunity to build on these major music industry connects we have attained over the years, and the blessings to travel down these roads with my music brothers.
Did you experience a defining moment?
No, not really. I feel like every day is a defining moment when you take risks and gambles to better your situation.
What can we expect from you in 2022?
I will be dropping my first solo album with the help of my team The Fist Coalition. We are hoping for a nice rollout with all the things that come with it. |THIS ENT.
