Last year was incredible for acclaimed journalist, content creator and media personality Shameika Rhymes, and we’re excited for what she has in store here in 2020. A blogging icon thanks to her series The Mofo Chronicles, the ‘Check the Rhymes TV’ star took time out her busy schedule to answer THIS questionnaire about her previous 12 months and what to expect from her in the months ahead.
THIS: How would you summarize 2019?
Shameika Rhymes: A time of growth and healing.
THIS: What was your favorite song of ‘19?
Shameika Rhymes: Da Baby’s “Bop” was my jam, but I also loved Calvin Richardson’s “Let Me Love on You.”
THIS: What was your favorite movie?
Shameika Rhymes: ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
THIS: What’s the television show you couldn’t stop watching?
Shameika Rhymes: ‘UnSung’ and ‘Sherman’s Showcase’.
THIS: What album got the most play?
Shameika Rhymes: Honestly, I listen to a lot of old school stuff, so I probably wore out ‘Rhythm Nation’ and Mary J. Blige’s ‘My Life’ album more than anything in 2019.
THIS: What did you Google the most?
Shameika Rhymes: Myself! [Laughs] I can’t have folks outchea swiping my interviews and articles and not giving me credit for it.
THIS: What was the most shocking thing you heard all last year?
Shameika Rhymes: I honestly don’t recall anything.
THIS: Tell us how you evolved over the last 12 months.
Shameika Rhymes: I decided to focus on me and learned to love myself and heal from past hurts. I learned the power of gratitude.
THIS: What was your biggest blessing last year?
Shameika Rhymes: I’d have to say it was getting out of my own way and launching my YouTube Channel – first it was The Mofo Chronicles but it evolved in 2020 into ‘Check the Rhymes TV’ – seeing the vision come to life has been an amazing journey.
THIS: How do you teach someone to have better respect for the value of time?
Shameika Rhymes: They either have manners or they don’t. [Laugh] Seriously, I give leeway – 15 minutes tops – for being late, but I have no tolerance when someone ghosts without a good explanation, that they immediately let me know asap. Once you show someone you aren’t playing around with time, they either get in line and respect it or they just miss out on hanging out, or even an interview or whatever it is. That’s their loss not mine.
THIS: What can we expect from you here in 2020?
Shameika Rhymes: More amazing content on ‘Check the Rhymes TV’ and of course more writing! |THIS
