Welcome to THIS edition of GOOD QUESTION, brought to you exclusively by THISent.com! I’m your host, “Word Heavyweight Champion” Mr. Joe Walker.
Throughout my illustrious career as an entertainment writer and journalist, I’ve been blessed with opportunities to speak with many notable and famous persons. One of those is NBA champion Matt Barnes!
During our conversation I asked Matt THIS good question: What was your life like before and after your growth spurt?
He answered, “It was difficult because I came from a rough neighborhood with gangs, but my parents always put me in better schools. I just kind of had a tough transition.
Being Italian and Black, and going to predominately White schools, I was never Black enough or White enough. It was tough in the middle area, and I just fought my way through – literally. I was always fighting to let people know they couldn’t just mess with me.
Once I started picking up sports and being the best at everything, I was kind of accepted. Once I understood what that was about, I just took people for what they were, knowing they were only talking to me because I was good at sports. It kept me focused on sports, and not worried about outside distractions.
Don’t get me wrong, I did have a good set of friends I grew with who liked me for me. But during my transition I just took people for what they were.” |THIS.
