Welcome to this edition of GOOD QUESTION, brought to you by THISent.com! I’m your columnist M.J. Walker.
Throughout my illustrious career as an entertainment writer and journalist, I’ve been blessed with opportunities to speak with many notable and famous persons. One of them is renowned astrophysicist, best-selling author, and arguably the foremost scientific mind in America Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson!
During our conversation I asked Dr. Tyson THIS GOOD QUESTION:Why do you think people get so upset about what they think is right or wrong?
He answered, “We can unpack that in many ways!
No matter your circumstances we live in a land of privilege here in the United States. That’s why it became an internet meme where they would comment on first-world problems.
“I’m in traffic and I got to work 15 minutes late.”
Well, you just took a car that someone invented in a technological revolution a hundred years ago. You have all the food you need, you’re clothed, and your biggest complaint is you got to work 15 minutes late because of extra cars on the road.
You could be in an airplane, and you land on the other side, and you’ll complain that the food wasn’t as warm as it should’ve been … while on that plane you had internet access, flying 600mph at 35,000ft!
I try to always be completely aware of the benefits and riches of not only science and technology, but what the general ingenuity of our species has brought us, especially in the modern world.
So, I’m not one of those that is constantly finding something to complain about. I’d rather look at what is working and celebrate that.” |THIS.
