A dark chapter in American history has closed yet the worst is not over.
There’s light at the end of the tunnel but the tunnel is long, and its darkness is prevalent.
Joe Biden being inaugurated as the 46th President isn’t an automatic overall improvement. It doesn’t wipe a muddy slate clean or absolve our country from its many embarrassing misgivings.
Biden taking office won’t immediately lessen the amount of work needed to change things for the better.
Covid-19 still has us grounded for an undisclosed amount of time.
There’s still a raging pandemic of social inequality, divisive misinformation, unhinged foolishness, popularized public insults and discrimination, and racism.
We also shouldn’t be afraid to share space and time with our friends and loved ones.
We shouldn’t fear going to public places or simply walking or driving past our local law enforcement.
We should trust that our elected officials are working on our behalf and that our media is reporting the truth.
Our new President can’t and won’t fix any of these societal blemishes on his own.
Here’s where we come in. You and I. Everyone we know. All of us.
Charity is the voluntary giving of help. Our society, in so many areas, needs us to be considerably more charitable. And that charity starts at home. We’re still grounded so use that time to think and plot and plan our course.
Let’s head straight for that long dark tunnel while carrying the history books in our arms, a pencil behind our ears, and the weight of our loved ones, our nation, and our future on our backs.
Our legs are strong. We’ve made it this far.
Write new pages as we carry the load. Change is a journey. Document all the steps we’ve taken.
When we finally reach the light, we’ll look over everything we wrote down. Read all the differences we made. Admire our contributions to history.
No more deaths because of COVID-19.
No more inequality, divisive misinformation, unhinged foolishness, popularized public insults and discrimination, and racism.
No more fear of being close to our friends and loved ones or being afraid of our law enforcement.
No more untrustworthy elected officials and members of the media.
No more societal blemishes.
All of this can happen. We can make a difference.
Joe Biden is President but he’s just one person. He can’t change America alone. We must do our part.
You and I.
Everyone we know.
All of us. |THIS.
