GZA performing at The Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids, MI would be a special occasion any day of the week. He made Wednesday January 29, 2019 extra special; the iconic Wu-Tang Clan member brought his “Liquid Swords 25th Anniversary Tour” to the venue.
With a legendary allure that attracts both hip-hop and non-hip-hop fans, the brilliant artist also known as The Genius played to a raucous sold-out audience. THIS Ent was right in the middle of them.
GZA didn’t disappoint.
Performing selections from his unanimously acclaimed, classic solo album ‘Liquid Swords’, a set Rolling Stone Magazine called “sonic mastery”, GZA rhymed lead in the grittiest rap-a-long ever. Throughout the Scheme hands merged into Ws while waving in air. Chants of “WU…TANG” were deafening.
Following a homage to his Wu brothers, including the late Ol Dirty Bastard, GZA made note of the crowd’s relentless energy. “Yo, Grand Rapids is live’er than Detroit,” GZA said, which sparked another ear-trembling ovation.
He closed with his beloved title track before taking several minutes to shake hands with many of his fans.
This extra special night started hot with crowd-pleasing performances from Rebel Kuzco (with Dean Martian), The Fist Coalition, and the iconic Wisemen duo of Bronze Nazareth and June Mega. The entire show was outstanding. |THIS
