Fast, furious, and funny, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ is a better than expected video-game-to-film adaptation.

The popular children’s video game makes its long-awaited journey to the big screen in a live-action comedy starring the faster than lightspeed [Sega Genesis mascot] Sonic.

The film follows his adventure on Earth after being forced to leave his home world to escape danger. Through the power of his gold rings, Sonic (Ben Schwartz) travels to Earth, keeping a low profile until being discovered by human Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Together they join forces to stop Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic to use his powers to take over the world.

Vide games usually have a rough go of translating to film, however ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ pulls it off well.

Jim Carrey taps into the fountain of youth to bring a zany performance reminiscent of his Ace Ventura days.

[Schwartz as the] voice [of] Sonic is very good as well and seems to get what this character is all about. The redesign of Sonic was good also.

Overall, it’s a great movie to take your children to as they will enjoy it as much as I did, or perhaps even more.
