Former Jedi Ahsoka Tano and clone Commander Rex were fighting for their lives, trying desperately to survive an all-out assault from troops from their own battalion. They found themselves targets on a severely damaged, certain-to-crash-land Republic battleship at the climax of the now legendary Clone Wars.
Chancellor Palpatine, known behind their backs as the phantom menace Darth Sidious of the Sith, had called for Order 66 – a secret directive implanted into all clone troopers that triggered them to execute all Jedi padawans, knights, generals, masters, and Jedi sympathizers.
Luckily, Ahsoka was able to locate and remove the chip from inside her longtime friend and ally Rex. With himself mostly collected, the pair did all they could to escape the crash, the relentless gun fire of their mates, and the blood-lust wrath of Darth Maul – the fugitive ex-apprentice of Sidious who was a prisoner on their doomed ship.
The Finale of ‘The Clone Wars’ was intense, heartbreaking, and exceptional storytelling. I waited patiently for the final season of this clever and violent animated series to finally play out on Disney+. It was well worth the wait!
I remember people lamenting the idea of an edgy, still immature Anakin Skywalker having a mouthy young Ahsoka as his apprentice. In the end – an ending with a beautiful symbolic final shot that will make your eyes well-up with tears – watching them grow up together and then apart during those years of conflict is arguably the best story in the entire Star Wars Universe. |THIS.
