‘The Hunt’ wastes no time getting into the thick of things
with it’s over the top display of outright violence and dark humor, and it was
a movie that I enjoyed for all the wrong reasons.
A group of individuals who were captured in their sleep wake up in a wooded and
clear area with no idea of how they got there. They soon realize to their
horror that they are being hunted by a group of wealthy yet clandestine
individuals with ulterior motives for conducting this ghastly game. However,
the hunters soon become the hunted as one of the victims turns the tables and
starts to pick them off one by one.
‘The Hunt’ is as a political satire skewering the ongoing conflict between the Right
and Left ideologies with its clever disguise as a fast paced survival thriller.
For the most part, these dichotomies work well together if you don’t take them
too seriously.
Fans of ‘The Purge’ movie series will feel right at home with this one. Others,
not so much.
In summary: hunting the most dangerous animal of all, a human, is something
we’ve all seen before on the silver screen but you’ve never seen it play out
quite like it does in this funny, violent and politically incorrect film.
