As Drew McIntyre stood on the turnbuckle with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship held above his head, we stood in our living rooms and home offices applauding his victory over Brock Lesnar. Drew couldn’t hear us clapping and cheering the results of their short but well-paced main event title match, but we heard his sincere elation of finally being the top performer.
World Wrestling Entertainment presented Part 2 of their 2-night WrestleMania 36 live from their Performance Center in Orlando, FL on April 45, 2020. Billed as being too big for just one night, the second half of its stacked card took place with no fans in attendance due to COVID-19 safety precautions. As we watched matches take place in an empty venue, we had a good time as though we were there in person.
This was a night of storytelling, and we got a tremendous ups-and-downs career tale from John Cena’s physical and psychological loss to “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt in their epic, super-creative “Firefly Funhouse Match”.
Rhea Ripley’s overconfidence and subsequent devastation made her NXT Women’s Championship loss to “The Queen” Charlotte Flair a “Match of the Year” contender. The victory made Charlotte a 2-time NXT title holder with 11 total title reigns in her WWE career.
Edge and Randy Orton beat each other up so viciously in their very personal “Last Man Standing Match”, it became more uncomfortable to watch the longer it went on. Edge won using a thunderous chair-shot to the back of the head of an already fallen Orton.
The feel-good moment of the night was watching Otis finally lock lips with Mandy Rose after he toppled Dolph Ziggler.
Bayley, once the consummate hero, is now arguably the best villain in WWE. And she proved this again by underhandedly beating five opponents to defend her Smackdown Women’s Championship.
The Street Profits defending their RAW tag titles and Aleister Black dang-near kicking Bobby Lashley’s head off were both entertaining while not as emotional as the other matches.
Overall, Night 2 of WrestleMania 36 was a rollercoaster worth the wait in line! |THIS.
