Welcome to Royal Rumble Countdown brought to you by THISENT.com and The Wrestling Heroes and Insiders Podcast aka The WHIP Show!
World Wrestling Entertainment’s annual Royal Rumble match is a variation of the traditional Battle Royal match. With a total of 30 competitors, two WWE Superstars start in the ring then every 90 seconds thereafter another Superstar enters. A Superstar is eliminated when they’re thrown over the top rope and both feet touch the floor.
The last remaining Superstar is guaranteed a championship opportunity at WrestleMania versus the current RAW Women’s Champion or Smackdown Women’s Champion.
The 36th annual Royal Rumble happens live from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on January 28, 2023.
We think Shayna Baszler should be its winner.
Known as “The Queen of Spades” and the “Submission Magician”, the crippling MMA fighter turned professional wrestler is due to pull a major singles championship out of her hat. A 2-time NXT Woman’s Champion and 2-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion (with Nia Jax), Baszler’s goal was gold from the second she stepped foot in the squared circle.
Baszler dominated the Elimination Chamber to become #1 contender in 2020, only to fall short against the veteran Raw Woman’s Champion Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36.
Now more experienced and hungrier than ever, Baszler is considerably more in-ring savvy than her real-life friend, Smackdown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. Currently acting as the champ’s muscle, winning the Ruble match would grant Baszler two unique opportunities.
One, she could go to WrestleMania and topple Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. The win would make her and Rousey the top two women in WWE. Maybe that achievement would lead to a unification match for the ages.
Or two, Baszler targets Rousey outright in hopes of becoming champion. The best part? She would have to win a potentially historic hard-hitting match at WrestleMania 39 to do it. |THIS ENT + The WHIP Show
