Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.

This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Ozay Moore is a shining example.

Moore is living, breathing, irrefutable evidence that the art of hip-hop still exists. Formally known as Othello, the Seattle-born Lansing-residing artist executes wordplay as swiftly and strategically as moving chips in a game of Rervesi. Behind the music Moore’s faith is invested in uplifting hip-hop and serving the Lord. According to RapZilla.com he’s one of the Top 20 rappers of all-time.

In 2010 Moore established the All of the Above Hip Hop Academy, using the elements of the culture to educate, mentor, and groom the leaders and artists of tomorrow. While good at what he does, he’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.

I asked Ozay Moore to tell me about a time when he did something nice for someone he didn’t know. Here’s what he shared.

“I was in Philadelphia and a homeless man asked me for some money. I said alright, I’ll take you over here to McDonald’s because I don’t have any cash. I only had a card.

I took him over to get a bite to eat. I handed him the burger. He took the burger, threw the wrapper on the ground, and walked off.

And for a hot second I was mad! I was like, for real? I just blessed you! How are you going to just throw the wrapper on the ground and walk off like that didn’t happen?

I was confronted with my motivation right there. Am I doing this because it’s the right thing to do or am I doing it because I feel like I deserve some sort of pat on the back for doing the right thing?

So, in the moment, my motivation was wrong. From that situation I learned I was able to be challenged in having the right posture when you go about doing good for other folks and not allowing it to be about you; in some weird, twisted way it has to come back and pat you on the back. It doesn’t have to be that at all.

You just do it because it’s right.” |THIS
