Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.

This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Melissa B is a shining example.

An internationally acclaimed songwriter, producer, recording artist and author, Melissa’s powerful voice, compassionate words, and fun tunes have netted her a Hollywood Music Media Award, a Global Music Award, and #1 on Billboard. As long as she continues to release infectious concept albums the accolades are sure to continue.

A self-professed “geek girl”, Melissa thrives on the cutting edge. Through her non-profit organization Girl Geek Dinners NYC she inspires young women to learn computer science and the use of advancing technology. While good at what she does, she’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.

I asked Melissa B to tell me about a time when she did something nice for someone she didn’t know. Here’s what she shared.

“I used to work for a law firm. Every day I would go on the subway – it was called the south ferry. And there was always this man that was always there, every day, same time, 4 o’clock. I’d get off of work…the man is there.

He would be there begging for money, and food, and everything like that. I’d see him every day so I just watched him. I just watched him to make sure he was legit.

I put a care package together for him one day. After work I gave the care package to him; I put money in it, I put a little bit of food, snacks, and things for hygiene and all that kind of stuff.

The man looked at me and asked, ‘Why are you giving this to me?’ And I said, ‘Because you need it. I see you every day. I see people pass you by and it’s like people don’t even care. I care. And this is my little package to you.’ He was very happy about it!

From then on, every other day I’d have a little money for him. He was actually in a homeless shelter. And I’d give him the money because I knew he needed it.” |THIS
