Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.
This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Maggie Lakis is a shining example.
Do you need a good laugh? Lakis will make that happen for you. An acclaimed Broadway actress, she was tremendous and very funny as Bea in the hit musical ‘Something Rotten!’.
Having also appeared in ‘Avenue Q’, ‘Because of Winn-Dixie’, and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, Lakis’ believability on stage garnered her a Barrymore Award nomination. While good at what she does, she’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.
I asked Maggie Lakis to tell me about a time when she did something nice for someone she didn’t know. Here’s what she shared.
“In general with people I don’t know, I try to have as authentic of an interaction as possible. I try to give love and light.
You can sometimes tell if you get someone who is in a store or a waitress, someone who’s in a service industry position … Try to give them your love because I’ve been there. I’ve been in those jobs. You can tell if they seem like they’re grumpy because the last, like, 20 people they interacted with were terrible to them!
That’s something I always try to do when I can see someone needs it. Maybe if I can give you some love, then maybe you can then turn your day back around and give love back yourself.
Sometimes people give anger because they’ve received anger. You can receive love and put love back out there.” |THIS
