Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.
This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Todrick Hall is a shining example.
Hall is a star by his own extraordinary creative design. Using his now ultra-popular YouTube channel to showcase his abilities as a singer, writer, dancer, and director, he’s made his fun and elaborate productions must-see attractions to millions of viewers. Hall’s ‘Pop Star High’, ‘Straight Outta Oz’, ‘Twerk Du Soleil’, and ‘Forbidden’, along with music releases like ‘Haus Party, Pt. 2’, are but a few of his beloved, cross-cultural hits.
A natural in the studio and on stage, Hall also impressed during his run time in hit Broadway musical ‘Chicago’. A hard worker, he gives a peak into his lifestyle in acclaimed documentary ‘Behind the Curtain’. While good at what he does, he’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.
I asked Todrick Hall to tell me about a time when he did something nice for someone he didn’t know. Here’s what he shared.
“I was at Disney Land and I wanted to take photos for my Instagram with balloons. So I bought all these balloons, took all these photos, and I tried to give them back. I thought it was a nice gesture. I told them I would rather them be able to resale them to someone else.
The lady at Disney said, ‘Why don’t you just give them out to kids?’ I’m thinking I don’t want to, as a Black man, walk up to kids at Disney Land. Their parents would probably be like, ‘What is he trying to do? What has he done to these balloons? I don’t trust it!’
It’s sad we live in a world where people would have to feel that way or even think that way.
But I went and gave these balloons to some kids. It was probably 10 balloons. And the look on these kids’ faces… It was so magical! It was the definition of Disney magic! It was so cool!
It made their day and a lot of them were just coming into the park. The way their eyes lit up was like they’d won Publisher’s Clearing House. It changed the entire trajectory of their Disney Land experience. And that felt awesome to be able to do that because I’m such a humungous Disney fan, I love little kids and I love how wide-eyed they are. I love how optimistic they are.
To be able to make the kids’ day like that was just game-changing for me. Now that’s kind of my new Disney Land ritual. Every single time I go I’ll buy a few balloons and hand them out. You should try it if you go. It’s an awesome thing to do.” |THIS
