Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.

This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Sareem Poems is a shining example.

A long celebrated hip-hop artist with a catalog worthy of a ticker tape parade, Poems floats exceptional rhymes over every beat he rides. A Long Beach native residing in Lansing, MI, the Illect Recordings artist has a flow as great as the lakes with thoughts as deep as the ocean.

One of the best MCs alive, Poems’ fans across the world adore his verses of love, knowledge, wisdom and understanding which are found throughout classic LPs ‘Black and Read All Over’ and ‘Beautiful Noise’, and newer gems like ‘A Pond Apart’, ‘Mind Over Matter’ and ’88 To Now’. While good at what he does, he’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.

I asked Sareem Poems to tell me about a time when he did something nice for someone he didn’t know. Here’s what he shared.

“It was maybe a month or so ago. I went to the grocery store on at night in heavy downpouring rain. I get to my car when I’m done and there’s an elderly woman blocking me from getting into my car.

She looks stressed, afraid and tired. I put my bags on my back seats then I ask if I could help her unload her cart. She says yes.

Once we’re done I put the cart away for her. As I walk to my car soaking wet she stops me, gives me a side hug, looks me in the eyes and says, ‘Thank you for being so kind to me.’

Her words let me know kindness isn’t a common experience for her. It made me think, when’s the last time someone showed kindness to me?

Outside of my friends and family I couldn’t think of a time. Needless to say, I now look to be more available in this area.” |THIS
