Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.

This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Skyzoo is a shining example.

Celebrated for being one of the most prolific writers in hip-hop music, the award-winning Brooklyn MC has captivated audiences around the world with his exceptional word use for nearly 20 years.

Noted for working with the genres very best producers, Skyzoo’s albums – from ‘Live from the Tape Deck’ with Illmind to ‘Retropolitan’ with Pete Rock – are these unique portrait-pieces of art that hang beautifully in listeners minds. While good at what he does, he’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.

I asked Skyzoo to tell me about a time when he did something nice for someone he didn’t know. Here’s what he shared.

Man, and I’m not even trying to be funny, but I do that stuff every day!

I’m very big on paying it forward, I’m very big on just helping out. I’m a cool dude. As long as everything is smooth, I’m the nicest dude in the world. If something ain’t … then the Brooklyn comes out!

One night I found out a fan was driving 2 hours to come to a show. And the show was postponed because of the venue.

So, I called her before she got too far in her drive. And I didn’t know the fan at all. One of my friends on the tour told me. I guess she’d put it on Instagram and they hit her up and told her. When they told me about it I was, ‘Ah, man, is there a way to get in touch with shorty?’

So, they DM’d her and she sent her number.

I called her and I said, ‘Hey, I’m so sorry – whatever, whatever – with the venue. Do me a favor. Next time I’m in any city that you’re close to, or that you’re coming to if I have a show, DM me and I’ll make sure you’re good. I’ll make sure you don’t have to pay to get in the show and you can hangout backstage.’ When I see her I’m going to give her a bunch of merch for free.

I appreciate her going out of her way, driving 2 hours to see Skyzoo because that’s some hip-hop she loves.

I appreciate people. I appreciate people’s time and energy. I value that.” |THIS.
