Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.

This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Faith Walker is a shining example.

A soulful singer and songwriter acclaimed for her heartfelt passion, Walker captivates listeners through her recordings and compelling live performances.

A cancer survivor, Walker’s undeniable strength is felt in each note she sings. An inspiration to many, she shares her message in her lyrics, her videos, in-person speaking engagements, and day to day interactions. While good at what she does, she’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.

I asked Faith Walker to tell me about a time when she did something nice for someone she didn’t know. Here’s what she shared.

“I like to think that I do those things on a regular basis. I kind of challenge myself.

I was approached to do a blog for Humor Beats Cancer. I was challenged to write something funny that came out of fighting cancer, which you don’t really think of. I do write about my experience quite a bit but not from a funny point of view. I had to dig deep to find something funny.

So, I wrote a story about shaving my head, my most memorable haircut.

That was important because it’s inspiring to other people. I feel like that’s something I need to keep doing on an ongoing basis.

I have to tell a bit of my story and do it in different ways because it helps other people and inspires other people to keep going and to keep fighting. I’ve been fighting for a long time.

I get messages from different people saying I’m inspiring them because I’ve, actually, been Stage 4 for 10 years. Even just the fact that I’m still here is, like, 25% of people actually make it past 5 years. I’ve been fighting for 14 years, Stage 4 for 10 years.

When I get those messages from people, especially when it comes to my songwriting, I write songs about these challenges for people to hear them and be inspired. It resonates. It gets them to keep going.

The messages… I hold dear. It keeps me going. |THIS.
