Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.

This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Michael Barnes is a shining example.

Barnes, the lead vocalist of ultra-poplar Grammy-nominated rock group RED, has a voice that brings people to their feet and keeps them there. Fronting the theatric set of musicians that includes bassist Randy Armstrong, guitarist Anthony Armstrong, and drummer Dan Johnson, the incredible singer/songwriter has both inspired and excited listeners over 7 compelling albums and countless sold out live shows.

A proud husband, father and community leader, Barnes is dedicated to creating a positive legacy in both life and in music that will benefit everyone. While good at what he does, he’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.

I asked Michael Barnes to tell me about a time when he did something nice for someone he didn’t know. Here’s what he shared.

“Me and my wife, and my family, went down to Memphis to take care of my wife’s sister’s kids. They were doing a conference or something, so we were helping out with their kids.

We were coming back Sunday night and we were almost home, and there was this young couple – 18 or 19, teenagers – they were on the side of the road. Their tire was completely busted out!

You could tell by the look on their faces that they felt like, “We have no idea what to do!” The girl looked shattered like the world was coming to an end.

So we just pulled over and helped them out.

We gave them some advice too just because they were new to that whole situation. The guy had never busted a tire before.

I helped him change out the old tire and put on his little doughnut, then told him not to drive more than 40mph on it. He was so grateful. And everything that was going in his life … he just kind of unleashed it. And I was there as a listening ear.

You run into those situations, not just in the community but even on the road with fans. People don’t want to just hear our songs. They want to tell you what it makes them feel.

I feel like for us, we’re there to be that listening ear. That’s so important.

People want to get their story out and they want someone to listen.” |THIS.
