Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.
This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Retta is a shining example.
Most will go on about how funny Retta is. And it’s true, the New Jersey native actress, stand-up comedian, and author can be quite amusing. Celebrated for her role as the somewhat mysterious Donna Meagle on NBC’s Emmy-winning series ‘Parks and Recreation’, Retta is wowing critics as Ruby Hill on ‘Good Girls’ and with her book ‘So Close to Being the Shit, Y’all Don’t Even Know’. A graduate of Duke University, she brings intelligence with a touch of humor to everything that carries her name.
While good at what she does, she’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.
I asked Retta to tell me about a time when she did something nice for someone she didn’t know. THIS is what she shared.
“I hope I do something nice for someone else all the time.
I believe in pay it forward. I love when someone does something nice.
Like when you’re at the airport and the ticket agent doesn’t have a friendly demeanor, I feel like it’s my job to be friendly to people so their jobs aren’t as hard. I think the nicest that I’ve been is when I’m not a jerk when a flight is canceled.
They’re dealing with a lot of people who are very upset and don’t care about how your day was going. They just want to get to where they’re going. They act very selfishly. So, I try very hard, even if I’m just that one person, to make it very easy for that ticket agent to say ‘I’m sorry, I just can’t get you out tonight. You’ll have to get a hotel room.’
I don’t want to give them a problem. They don’t want me to have to stay in town. So, there’s no point in being a jerk about it.” |THIS.
