Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.
This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Najeema Iman is a shining example.
A loquacious educator, entrepreneur, and hand-made artist, Najeema is also a self-professed “people connector and people collector”. The Curlitude founder has an uncanny knack for turning spirited conversations about life, prosperity, and creativity into long term partnerships.
Born in New York, raised in Detroit, and now residing in Lansing, MI, Najeema has planted her roots firmly in the mid-Michigan community. She’s actively using her unifying nature to help grow working relationships between small business, the arts, and their city supporters. While good at what she does, she’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.
I asked Najeema Iman to tell me about a time when she did something nice for someone she didn’t know. Here’s what she shared.
“In general, I like to live a life of service to other people. I just like to give. It’s innately in who I am.
I was doing the “Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk” and we went to Cravings Popcorn. We got a bunch of the green apple sticks. And they’re wonderful, I love green apple sticks!
We were walking and there was a homeless guy who was there. The popcorn, I’d already had my hands in and it’s Covid-times, so I wasn’t trying to give him any of the popcorn! But my little green apples sticks were already in packaging, so I was like, “Hey, be blessed.” I just gave them to him.
In life there are simple joys and simple moments. If you can bring joy to somebody by giving them something as simple as something sweet…
People may give him food, or they may give him this or that or a short or whatever, but you’re not going to think to give somebody some candy. But it’s something like that. Finding the simple joys.
One saying that I go by in life is Do what brings joy. For me doing what brings joy is often-times helping people and serving other people.
You do what you’re passionate about and service is a passion of mine. The more and more that I’m becoming my true self, the more I’m realizing that when I choose to serve, and I choose to be selfless, it’s not just to be like Christ but to be a good human.
And being a good human is being selfless.” |THIS.
