Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.
This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Ice T is a shining example.
A legend in the entertainment industry, Ice T is, first and foremost, one of Hip Hop’s most celebrated icons.
The platinum-selling Grammy-winner pioneered gangsta rap with his classic single “6 in the Mornin’”, going on to record a revered catalog that includes hit songs “Make It Funky”, “Colors”, “You Played Yourself”, and “Lethal Weapon”, and classic albums Power, O.G Original Gangster, and Rhyme Pays. Ice T later added heavy metal to his resume as the front man for critically acclaimed band Body Count.
Ice T transitioned from music to movies beginning with appearances in Breakin, Breakin 2, and Rappin’. He got his breakout acting performance in the 1991 box office smash New Jack City. Since then, he’s appeared in nearly 100 movies and documentaries, scored a series of hit reality shows with his real-life wife, and popularly portrays fan-favorite Sgt. Fin Tutuola on NBC television staple Law & Order: SVU.
While good at what he does, he’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.
I asked Ice T to tell me about a time when he did something nice for someone that he didn’t know. Here’s what he shared.
“Well, this is some lightweight shit but this is some funny shit.
One time I was going into Guitar Center in L.A. and outside was this homeless guy. I didn’t know he knew who I was.
So, here’s the gag. The guy says, ‘Can you help me out?”
I go in the store and on the way out I know dude is right there, so I’m like let me get some money together. I go in my pocket, I get $20, and I hit him off.
That mutha f***a had a harmonica and he said, “dee-dah dee-dah … Ice T was a man … dee-dah dee-dah … and a hell of a man… dee-dah dee-dah … In a world of boys… dee-dah dee-dah … Ice T was a man!”
That was worth a million dollars! I was like, Lord… I didn’t even know the dude knew my name, but that’s a moment I’ll never forget!
I did something kind for somebody I didn’t know and he made a song for me. That was cold, jack.” |THIS.
