Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.
This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Lhauren Singleton is a shining example.
An executive director in relationship education and a passionate leadership coach, Singleton wholeheartedly wants everyone in the game of life to win.
Experienced in administrative and business management, system operations, leadership training, and volunteer coordination, her exceptional acumen and abundant professional value comes second to her overflowing empathy.
Singleton also launched her podcast “Tug of Wonder with Lhauren Singleton”. Each episode is about discovering the wonder that guides our everyday lives.
While good at what she does, she’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.
I asked Lhauren Singleton to tell me about a time when she did something nice for someone that she didn’t know. Here’s what she shared.
“Growing up and watching my mom do acts of kindness on a regular basis taught me to always be kind!
I’m never too busy to pay attention to the little things in life that could possibly change someone’s day around. There have been plenty of times that I have taken care of a stranger’s drink order, paid for their groceries, or helped an elderly or injured person with a tedious task.
Being kind and thoughtful isn’t something that I seek out to do anymore, it truly is just who I am.
I don’t say that in a boastful way because I don’t think that makes me any better than the next person. However, I do say that with a thankful heart because I appreciate the many people who have shaped me to think of others and genuinely care enough to want to see a smile on someone else’s face.
Whenever I get too bogged down with my own life, I always find myself being reminded by the Holy Spirit to look outward. The best part about that is it always ends up being exactly what someone needed.
For example: I was in Kroger one day and I kept seeing this young lady walking around grabbing her groceries, and then she would put a couple back. She eventually went in line at the self-checkout. I heard the Holy Spirit say tell her to go grab what she wants and pay for her things. So, I walked up to her and told her, ‘Please don’t be alarmed but God told me to tell you to grab what you want and to take care of your things for you.’
She looked at me with a shocked look on her face and asked me if I was sure. I let her know I was absolutely sure, and that I knew I heard him say that. She began crying. She told me she was just talking to her mom on the phone in the parking lot outside of the store, and that she was telling her mom that she didn’t know if God was real. And if he was, how could she know he truly cared about her.
Her mom told her He would show her. If she hadn’t told me that, I never would have known. But I was so glad she did. It was a reminder to always be obedient when I know God wants me to do something out of the ordinary for someone else, and to never get so concerned about my own life that I miss out on an opportunity to bless someone else.” |THIS.
