Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.
This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Hoops Green is a shining example.
Green proudly dons the red, white and blue of the world famous Harlem Globetrotters. A 5’9 guard with incredible ball-handling, a wicked crossover and an infectious smile, she’s victorious every time their fans leave happy.
A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Green’s sensational career at Lexington Catholic High School would lead to a record-setting run at University of Texas – El Paso. While earning a degree in sports management from Southern New Hampshire University she simultaneously played professional basketball around the world. Before bringing her skills to the Globetrotters she shared them as a coach and mentor.
While good at what she does, she’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.
I asked Hoops Green to tell me about a time when she did something nice for someone she didn’t know. THIS is what she shared.
“I was living in Texas. There’s a lot of homeless people out there.
One day a guy came up to me and asked if I had any cash. I didn’t have any cash on me but I told him I’d buy him a meal. And he said, “Perfect!” So that’s what I did.
I’ve done that a couple times. I do it because I know that I’m blessed and I don’t want to take any situation for granted. I want to help people as much as I can.
Being part of The Harlem Globetrotters I’m definitely able to help people. It gives me a bigger platform to do it. We visit hospitals and there’s little kids in there. They’re sick, fighting cancer or whatever it may be, and we go in there making them smile. And I’m grateful for it.” |THIS.
