Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.
This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Jon Connor is a shining example.
Connor’s brilliantly written lyrics are thought provoking and his delivery is intensely passionate. His gifts are felt tremendously on albums While You Were Sleeping, Unconscious State, and SOS.
Jon’s heart is invested in every song, as it is when dealing with anything related to Hip Hop culture and his Flint, Michigan community.
While good at what he does, he’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.
I asked Jon Connor to tell me about a time when he did something nice for someone that he didn’t know. Here’s what he shared.
“I’m going to tell you a spooky story. Well, it’s not even spooky because I’m a spiritual dude.
I believe in karma, and that everything comes back around. And this ain’t the last time, but it’s just an amazing example.
We were in Texas at SXSW. We’re enjoying the festival, there’s music everywhere. We were marching down the street, and there was this homeless person playing the drums.
He was doing his thing, so I took whatever I had in my pocket, which happened to be $20, and I gave it to him. He needed it more than I did. I put it down and just walked away. I don’t really think about it. Whatever I have is what I’m going to give, you know what I’m saying?
Then the wildest thing happened.
We’re walking, we’re enjoying SXSW, we’re chanting and everything, and then I noticed my shoe was untied. And right at my feet there was a $20 bill laying there! It came back around!
I looked at my man Mickey Wallace, and he saw when I gave dude the $20, and Mick looked at me like, ‘Wow…’.
Good things always come back around. Positivity always comes back around.” |THIS.
