Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.
This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Senri Oe is a shining example.
An innovative jazz star known for his vibrant piano play, Senri captivates audiences around the world with upbeat live performances and online through his colorful videos. With a welcoming smile and fun-loving demeanor, his personality is as magnetic as his music.
A former pop music superstar in Japan, Senri’s transition to jazz has been met with rousing critical acclaim. His evolution has resulted in seven albums since 2008, all hailed as masterpieces. His current LP Letter To N.Y. is an incredible piece of art.
While good at what he does, he’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.
I asked Senri Oe to tell me about a time when he did something nice for someone that he didn’t know. Here’s what he shared.
“Oh, that’s a very philosophical question.
If I try to do nice things for others, that’s not nice anymore because nice things are always supposed to happen without thinking. That’s to anybody anywhere.
My neighbors are a lot of old people, a lot of people using wheelchairs. People will try to help each other. I always learn from just watching them. I watch and listen for if they really need some help, and I’ll help them. And that’s beautiful.
I always think about if I help an old lady out of the car, off the bus or train, does she really want me to help her? She’s walking by herself. So, I try to be aware of her, watching carefully.
I’m not sure if that’s nice or not nice, but I’m always watching because all types of things happen on the street in the world.
People should be nice.
I always do nice things for others, but I realize things happen unexpectedly, very emotionally. So that action, that moment for others could be nice.
One of the things I try to do that’s nice is just listening to people.” |THIS.
