Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.

This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Risa Binder is a shining example.

An outgoing singer and songwriter, Binder captured hearts and critical acclaim with her debut EP Nashville. Her feel-good songs – “You Came Along”, “You Haul”, and “A Lot Like Home” to name a few – are just as popular for their messages as they are for stellar vocals and songwriting.

Binder’s “Just Like That” was featured on iconic television show General Hospital, earning her an Emmy Award nomination for “Best Song in a Daytime Drama”.

An eye-catching live performer that radiates positive energy, Binder also entertains and brightens lives with her online show Risa’s Weekly Dose of Happy.

While good at what she does, she’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.

I asked Risa Binder to tell me about a time when she did something nice for someone that she didn’t know. Here’s what she shared.

“I kind of still live between New York and Nashville, but when I lived in New York fulltime I wanted to show people that New Yorkers are nice.

I think New Yorkers sometimes get a bad rep!

I started something called ‘Be the Change’ blog where I just kind of found nonprofits that I thought were great, and I wanted to showcase them.

The first one I found was called Animal Haven in New York City. I think it’s in SOHO if I’m not mistaken. But it’s a no-kill animal shelter. I basically looked up on their website for what it is they’re still in need of. They needed kitty litter, plastic bags, and different things to help keep their place clean.

I ended calling different organizations to donate cat food, dog food, kitty litter and things like that. And I interviewed them, and I brought them what they needed it.

I wanted to show people that you don’t need money to give back. You just need your time.” |THIS.
