Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.

This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Steven “Kingpin” Segovia is a shining example.

A man of many talents, Kingpin is noted chef, professional toy collector, producer, and Midwest underground Hip Hop icon. Having toured the country, his music career brought him notoriety, respect, and showmanship that’s found its way into his many traditional and unique delicacies, including his popular THC infused Kingpin’s Kewlaid.

Another of his treats is toy hunting, tracking down vintage, rare, and sought-after action figures, sets, and comics for himself and clients.

Kingpin is also the co-founder and content creator for Not Your Average Nerds Network. Their weekly podcast discusses all things nerdy in pop culture.

While good at what he does, he’s also a good person and one who believes in helping others.

I asked Steven “Kingpin” Segovia to tell me about a time when he did something nice for someone that he didn’t know. Here’s what he shared.

“We were driving down the road, me and my daughter, my step-daughter, and my fiancé. It was almost winter, and it was cold with light snow.

My daughter pointed out this guy. She said, ‘Look at that man. He’s just sitting there shaking.’ It compelled us to run to the store. We bought a sweater, gloves, a blanket, and food. We came back and my daughter and my step-daughter got out and they gave it to him.

I didn’t notice him because I was driving, so it was their call. They told me to stop and look. It warmed my heart to see the compassion in them, and to inspire us to turn around and say we need to help this person and then go do it.

I didn’t ask him his name. I just told him I hope God watches over you, God bless you, and I hope this helps you in some way. It was fulfilling to all of us individually but more so as a family.

I told the girls what they did was amazing and that’s what this world needs. I encourage that. I hope they’ll remember that and look back on that when they see people in need.

I see people who are better off who look at people on the street and give them the screw face instead of looking to help them. They make assumptions about what they want or what they’ll do with money if you give it to them.

You can’t do that! You have to make the approach to figure that out. There’s a lot of people genuinely in need.

There’s a time and place for everything. So, when you see a human that’s in need and you have the means to help, go forward with that.”  |THIS.
