If you’re trying to get into sync, this misunderstanding might be holding you back from hundreds of sync placements.

People come up to me and tell me they want to get into sync licensing. A lot of times they stuff like this: “Well, I’ve got the perfect song for sync licensing I’ve got this song, it’s called ‘Basketball’. It would work really good for a basketball game.”

What I want people to understand is that, when it comes to sync, you’re not writing jingles or songs that are specifically narratives to what’s going on in the scene.

What you’re trying to write is how people feel in those scenes.

If we’re thinking of a basketball game, you’re not writing a song that’s narrating the game. You’re writing about how it feels to fight through the process of the game; like how it feels to win, or how it feels to feel like you’re losing and then come back after halftime and turn the whole thing around.

You want to tap into the emotion of what people feel because that’s applicable to more than basketball! | By James Gardin
