I’ve been blessed to meet a lot of remarkable people who’ve achieved substantial degrees of fame. We connect at events, I might do an interview and write about the experience, then leave the visual evidence exclusive to my memory.

I get asked all the time, “Why don’t you take pictures with all the famous people you meet?” I do occasionally. This photo with Lisa Downie and Jon Connor is significant. Very.

Lisa and her Mona Lisa Productions hosted a dope artist showcases in Grand Rapids, MI called The Come Up. Each one was frontloaded with an open mic that allowed participants to get evaluated by industry insiders and headlined by a performance by a top act. Connor was this night’s marquee and, yes, I interviewed him.

But it was during this interview that I asked him the question that’s the premise of my Shining Example column, and at that time it didn’t even have a name or home yet. I just knew whatever it was going to be I wanted Connor to be part of it. He is currently Shining Example #80, but for the original iteration he was Example #1. |THIS.
