Welcome to THIS GAMING QUESTION (TGQ), brought to you by THISent.com, Proven Esports Group, and The Exotic Shoppe!
We love everything about videos games; playing them, learning about them, anticipating new releases, reflecting on how they’ve impacted our lives, and discussing whether they’re fun or not.
Let’s start a conversation now with THIS GAMING QUESTION:Is Banjo-Kazooie a classic?
Released in 1998 on Nintendo 64, Banjo-Kazooie is one of many offspring of Super Mario 64. Employing many of the plumber’s familiar 3D mechanics, the goofy bear and his bird friend took players on quite the adventure to rescue Banjo’s little sister Tooty from Gruntilda the witch.
I remember initially turning my nose up. At first glance I considered the game to be just another Mario knockoff that I’d play for a few minutes then dismiss. I rented it from Blockbuster Video and got so engrossed in the fun that I re-rented the cartridge several times to continue my quest.
Eventually I just bought it.
Later I learned that many of my friends were enthralled too, having purchased the game before me. And if my memory serves me right Electronic Gaming Monthly and Game Pro Magazine, two publications with opinions I respected, both gave Banjo-Kazooie high review marks.
Calling a game or anything else “classic” is subjective. However, I realized the N64 top-seller was revered and still held in high regard when gamers went crazy for Banjo and Kazooie as playable characters on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and when the full version of their game was announced for Nintendo Switch virtual console availability. |THIS.
