Fans of Hip Hop icon DMX were hoping he’d recover from a heart attack caused by a reported drug overdose. The multiplatinum-selling recording artist and actor battled drug addiction for most of his life. As he continued to fight while on life support, this tangle was unfortunately his last.
He passed away at age 50 on April 9, 2021.
Fully aware of his demons, ones he didn’t shy away from during conversations and in his music, DMX’s fans sympathized with his struggles and showed him incredible empathy to the very end.
Looking back on his life and career makes us ask THIS GOOD QUESTION:
What did you like most about DMX?
Zach Myers of Rock group Shinedown shared a heartwarming story on their official Facebook page about meeting DMX.
He told how he and his brother were huge fans, having grown up listening to his music. Zach noted that meeting X was the most excited he’d ever been to meet someone.
Zach continued with something that stood out more. He wrote, “to see him later in life struggling with addiction …. yet STILL being such a positive person and lifting people up who were going through it … was inspiring”.
Surely that was an eyeopener for some who maybe didn’t follow DMX’s life and career as closely as Zach and mutual fans who share his sentiments.
DMX lived a life that could be seen as simultaneously successful and unsuccessful depending on the perspective of the viewer. What we liked most about him was that he was able to capture your attention but didn’t waste your time once he had it.
Whether you empathized or criticized, DMX inspired talking points of profound importance. He was honest when he discussed and rapped about his struggles and public standing, and did so as critically and passionately as everyone who loved him or loathed him. |THIS.[By Mr. Joe Walker]
