Lyfe opens his sophomore album with a club banger; “Slow Down” is uncharacteristic of the new era of soulfulness he established with his debut LP.
This cloud soon fades, as The Phoenix rises to the type of ballad-driven, emotional, soul-stirring music I expected of Lyfe. His pain from being poor, living on the street, being alone and foolish enough to get himself imprisoned still fuels his pen.
Lyfe makes songs like “The River,” “Goodbye,” “Still Here” and “More Than a Girl” feel so real, so inspiring, listeners may believe they can resurrect from any unfavorable situation and fly anew. | By Mr. Joe Walker
