Congratulations on being named Player of the Week! Tell us how it feels to get recognition from your team and community.
It’s always a great feeling to be recognized by your teammates and community as Player of the Week.
What other accolades have you received during your football career?
I received 3 years All-Conference QB in high school, All-State first team Defensive Back in high school, and State Championship Runner-up in 2015. I was a part of the first high school team from Lansing to go to the state championship game, Sexton, in 2015. I’ve received two MVP awards in semi pro, League Championship MVP, and National Championship game MVP runner-up.
Let’s reflect on another achievement you’ve accomplished in life. Think of one not related to football but, in terms of being appreciated, is equally as important to you.
One of my favorite achievements is being hired into the school district. Other than making it pro, it has always been a dream of mine to work with the youth as a coach or even mentor!
Your team certainly benefits from your play and effort, but what are they learning from you and what are you learning from them?
I think one thing my team is learning from me is how to be a leader. Not just vocally, but also physically. And because we have so many leaders on the team this year, it’s teaching me how to sit back and let others lead.
Why did you become a football player and has being one lived up to how you imaged it would be?
I grew up around my pops who watched and played almost everything, which he put into me at a young age. I guess you can say I was programmed to be an athlete! And, honestly, no. I wanted to go to college and play in the NFL. But ultimately after having a family, I’m just happy to still have an opportunity to play today.
What do your admirers – family, friends, and fans – think of you as a person?
They love #4!
To the people who watch you play, especially the community’s youth, how would you explain the value of hard work and dedication?
I would say the real work is not in a game or in practice. It’s in the off-season. What are you doing to separate yourself from everybody else? Always push to be the best at whatever you do. That goes for both school and sports. We all want to go D1, but without the grades that’s impossible! | THIS is for YOU!
