Undefeated Semi-pro football team the Lansing Lightning are set to challenge Glass City Tigers on the road June 19, 2021. One of their exciting players, #41 Outside Linebacker Sage Owens is ready for all the action.

In THIS INTERVIEW Owens talked about brining positivity to Lansing, Michigan, what he doesn’t eat, and his team’s unity. Enjoy!

What do you enjoy most about playing football and being a football player?

The things I enjoy most about playing football is being able to compete with guys who share the same love of the game as me. I enjoy the fact that it can be used as a way and an opportunity for some to, sort of, set aside everything going on with their life and enjoy a game America loves, no matter what level it’s played.

For the people who are into healthy living, what does your diet and exercise routine consist of?

I don’t have a diet per say, but I’m not a pop drinker. I cut out pop and other carbonated drinks this year to better my health and I have seen a huge difference in not only the way I feel but how I perform. My mother has a unique diet and she’s constantly researching different foods that are healthy for the body. I spend a lot of time at the health food store!

As for exercise, I’m all about the cardio. A mile or two or three depends on the day. Outside of practice I’m your basic push-up, sit-up junkie. Anywhere, any place, any time, I might bust 20 out for the hell of it.

Why is it important for Lansing Lightning and the community to support one another?

I believe it’s important to connect the Lansing Lightning and the community, and stay connected, for many reasons. Over the past few years there has been a lot going on around America ultimately dividing us into groups. With indifferences and opinions most can’t see eye to eye on.

I think it’s important to build leaders within our community to connect with those around us, and important to teach and lead the youth in the right direction. Teamwork makes the dream work and we’re in this together. Together WE ARE LANSING.

What can your young fans learn from you besides sportsmanship and hard work?

Hard work and determination! My whole life I have been counted out and underestimated. I feed off of that, it only makes me hungry to go above and beyond my own expectations of myself. That goes for on and off the field.

Nothing in life is free. You have to work for it. The harder you work the better the results. You can achieve anything you set your mind to. Never let anyone tell you different. You are your worst enemy, as you can only defeat yourself.

What should we expect from you on the field every game?

You can expect to see some lightning speed with some thunderous tackling. I bring the intensity every snap and I don’t stop coming until I wear you down! You can expect to see great playmaking accompanied with great leadership skills. |THIS.
