Please enjoy Part 2 of THIS interview with John Hopkins aka Cake Monster, the winner Classic Groupe’s Tekken 7 video game tournament “Fight Night Round 1” which took place on November 28, 2018 at The Robin Theatre in Lansing, MI. On that night Cake Monster became the first Moneyball Sportswear Grand Champion!
THIS: Again, Cake Monster, you’re good with Brian Fury. We noticed early on that you weren’t using kicks. Has that been your main character all along?
Cake Monster: Well, I tried using Steve Fox; I liked his parries and counters. But overall, I just liked Brian’s ruthless aggression.
THIS: Were you nervous during the tournament finals? You appeared pretty confident, almost unrattled up to that point. Did Ali have you worried at all?
Cake Monster: Absolutely! Ali’s really good with his kicks, and really good at mixing up high, low, and mid [attacks]. I had to really pace myself. I couldn’t throw it all at him. I had to take my time.
THIS: This obviously wasn’t your first time. How many tournaments have you competed in?
Cake Monster: Since I was kid, like 7. Recently? [That was] my first one back.
THIS: How many tournaments have you won?
Cake Monster: I’ve won 6.
THIS: We thought that night felt special just watching it all. Tell what being a part of “Fight Night” felt like to you.
Cake Monster: It felt great! And this is a great idea. It’s one thing to be good at one game, it’s another to see how you test your metal with new games. It’s a great idea and I can’t wait until the next one. It gets kids off the street and gets them to focus on something else. It’s a great avenue.
THIS: With Classic Groupe’s reach and their connections, what if you find yourself up against a world class gamer like Austin Creed at the next “Fight Night”?
Cake Monster: From ‘Up, Up, Down, Down’? He’ll catch these hands! I’m ready for any challenge! |THIS.
